Keeping Our Distance, But Staying Close at Heart

29 Apr 2020
Keeping our distance, but staying close at heart! This pandemic has effected everyone in one way or another. Our residents certainly miss seeing their friends and family members. At the Middletown Home we are doing everything we can to keep our residents safe and healthy, while also giving them something to smile about! Our Activities Staff has been creatively coming up with ideas to entertain our residents while sticking to the safety guidelines. Since we can’t have group activities, we have our staff visiting residents door to door with special surprises! From a staff member dressed as the Easter Bunny, to dogs and horses visiting at windows (you can navigate to this website to meet the experts in this field), to our Activities Staff making people smile with “Crazy Hair Day!”
The Middletown Home also started up a Family Video Call Program. Residents can feel connected to their families through the power of technology! Their faces light up when they see their family members on the screen. It’s a great way for families to see and chat with one another despite the social distancing.
Our staff has been busy creating Activities Packets which include word searches, crossword puzzles, poems, stories, coloring pages, and much more! We also have been creating Bible Study and Church handouts. Our two pastors have been meeting with our residents daily and spending time with them, talking, reminiscing, and reflecting on truths and encouragements found in the Bible.
We hope that this quarantine will be over soon, but we certainly have learned a lot about the strength there is in community, the importance of connection, and the love that can overcome any distance. The staff at the Middletown Home want to send our best wishes to all of our friends, family, and community members. We miss seeing our halls filled with guests and visitors. But we know that this time will not last forever, and we know that the only way to get through it is together. We hope to see you all soon, but until then, we hope you all stay safe and healthy!
