When looking for the right Retirement Senior Living Apartments, whether for you or a loved one, there are so many things to consider. It can be overwhelming to even know where to look and then how to narrow down your best senior living or senior in-home care options.
Maybe this is a journey you’re on right now, or maybe it’s not for quite a few more years. No matter when you might need to find a retirement community, it never hurts to prepare yourself with some helpful information early. Take a look at these seven signs of a top quality retirement community to help make your decision making process just a little bit easier.
- Facilities are clean and welcoming
The first telltale sign of a top quality retirement community is that their facilities are kept in pristine condition and well maintained. The spaces should feel bright and welcoming to both residents and their visitors.
- Residents are happy and friendly
Be sure to talk with some of the residents to get a feel for how happy they are living in the community. You or your loved one should want to retire in a place that has happy and sociable residents who can become future friends.
- The caregivers are fully engaged and have genuine relationships with residents
Staff should be happy and enthusiastic about their job. Look for signs that caregivers have formed true friendships with their residents by how they interact with them and care for them.
- There are a variety of activities for all skill levels
Another sign of a top quality retirement community is one that offers a variety of activities to suit residents of all ages and abilities. If you’re on the younger side of the spectrum, you want to have opportunities to stay active. If you’re limited in your abilities, you still want to have activities that stimulate you mentally and physically.
- You have easy access to public transportation
Look for a community that is conveniently located near public transportation options including buses, train stations and airports. Whether you plan to travel outside the community much or not, you want to still have easy public transportation for your visitors.
- There’s a range of living options depending upon your needs
A top quality retirement community will offer a range of different living options from independent living apartments to personalized care with skilled medical professionals. This will allow you or your loved one to stay within the same community regardless of what needs may arise in the future.
- There is a vision for future improvements and growth
Finally, look for signs that the retirement community has a vision for continuing to improve their facility. There should almost always be long-term plans for renovations, upgrades and adding to their services.

I never knew that easy access to public transportation is a sign of a good retirement community. My grandparents are getting to the point where they need more help, and we were looking at different places. It would be nice for them to be able to go out when they want.
Thank you for your comment! Yes, we believe access to public transportation is a big benefit for our residents to enjoy getting around and enjoying all the community has to offer outside of our immediate property. We’re happy to offer you or your family more assistance and advice, should you ever need it. Have a great day!
I agree with this. Happiness always comes with a price and good retirement planning.
