11 Ways the Middletown Home Gives Back to the Community
03 Oct 2017

The Middletown Home is always growing the ways in which we give back to our community and support our residents by donating to worthy causes and hosting or participating in local events. Our doors are always open to the community and we hope you feel welcome to stop by anytime to see us!

As our way of saying thanks to the community, and also supporting programs and causes that are near and dear to us, we want to share just a few of the many ways we support the Central Pennsylvania region and beyond. Take a look!

Charity Care

Foremost, the Middletown Home focuses on giving back to the community by underwriting a substantial amount of charity care on an annual basis. As noted in our Annual Financial Report, the total amount of charity care for 2016 totaled $1,432,708! The charity care which we offer is just one of the many ways we give back to the community, it is also why it’s critical to our mission to grow our Benevolent Fund in order to continue to provide charity care to our residents for many years to come.

Annual Pumpkin Fest

The Middletown Home’s annual pumpkin fest is becoming one of the largest and most celebrated local fall festivals in the Central Pennsylvania region! This year we had thousands of attendees and hundreds of vendors fill our campus. We are so happy to organize this free community event where families can come out and enjoy fall activities, entertainment, music and more at little or no cost. Save the date for our 2018 Pumpkin Fest which will take place on Sunday, September 16, 2018. More information to come! Until then, please take a look at all the reasons people attended our 2017 event.

Annual Food Bank Food Drive

The Middletown Home is a proud supporter of the Middletown Food Bank Annual Food Drive which takes place in the fall. We team up with many business, organizations and members of the community to fill the food bank’s pantry with as much donated food as possible to ensure they can meet the needs of those they serve throughout the year.

Children’s Summer Reading Programs at Local Libraries

The Middletown Home donated 800 free ice cream cone coupons from our café to the local libraries in Middletown Colonial Park, Hershey and Hummelstown. These coupons were given to all children who completed the summer reading programs. We also provided a monetary donation to Middletown Library to further support its reading programs.

Pinnacle Health’s Gala and Golf Tournament

The Middletown Homes sponsored both the 2017 Pinnacle Health Gala in the beginning of year and Pinnacle Health’s 2017 Summer Golf Tournament. We recognize the importance of health-related organizations supporting one another so that we may work together to provide the best possible healthcare and quality of life to our aging community members!

The Alzheimer’s Association

This year, the Middletown Home raised and donated close to $3,000.00 in sponsorship and fund raising efforts for the Alzheimer’s Association. We also sent a team of staff to attend their annual walk. We will continue to fund raise until the end of year and hope to increase our donation even further!

Breast Cancer Awareness

In 2017, Kuppy’s Diner Car Show took place on September 21 in Middletown. This charitable event support the “Feel Your Boobies” campaign which raises money and provides information to support breast cancer awareness. The Middletown Home was a proud sponsor of this event and we look forward to future opportunities to continue this!

National Night Out

National Night Out is a rising movement to promote safety in our communities. The Middletown Home has a strong local presence as we set up booths in 3 communities: Middletown, Hummelstown and Lower Paxton. Our booths provide free refreshments and information to local residents on senior health and safety. We just love getting to meet and greet members of the community!

Sunset Golf Course Fireworks

The Middletown Home is pleased to be able to support the fireworks at Sunset Golf Course in Londonderry Township. As a sponsor, we help to ensure the community enjoys the firework display with family and friends, coming together to form great memories. Many members of our staff enjoy the fireworks too!

Lower Swatara Fire Company

Each May, the Lower Swatara Fire Company assists us with our mandatory annual live fire training for staff. In return, we provide a donation back to the fire company. This year, the donation was in collaboration with a part of the funds raised from the Pumpkin Fest. We are proud to have this strong partnership with our local fire company!

Free Tax Preparation through AARP

Beginning in 2016, we began a free tax preparation program through AARP. For two weeks, we had tax professionals on site to provide free tax preparation to our residents and to the community. We plan to grow this event in 2017, offering it for the entire tax season! Remember, this free service is open to the whole community; you don’t have to be over 50 years of age either!

And much more! The Middletown Home is proud to support the community and nonprofit organizations. We are always looking for more ways to give back, so if you have a worthy cause please let us know!
